“An eleven-hour escapade of musical creativity.” — The New Yorker
Make Music New York is a live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21 — the longest day of the year. On that day, hundreds of public spaces throughout the five boroughs — sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more — become impromptu stages for over 1,000 free concerts. Musicians of all ages, creeds, and musical persuasions perform for new audiences, who come out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free on the first day of summer. The New York Witch Festival has been held in Smithtown, Long Island for the past five years and has become one of the largest and most well-known Pagan events worldwide. It takes place on the last Saturday of October in celebration and in honor of the ancient Celtic holiday Samhain. The festival offers workshops with many well known authors and spiritual practitioners, along with book signings, vendors offering the widest varity of quality merchandise, tarot readers, musical entertainment, astrology, healers, and much more!
This year, Julie will be leading a workshop directly following Awen's musical performance (it starts at 3 pm in the Theatre Room) entitled "Let's Play! The Healing Power Of Music." She writes,
"Music is for everyone to enjoy and express, not just professional musicians. Used in mind/body healing since ancient times, it has the power to uplift our spirits and transform our lives. Come chant, drum, dance and unleash your playful creative spirit. In a fun, nurturing environment we will explore music’s transformational powers. Learn how you can reduce stress, improve your health, alleviate pain, release negative emotions, enjoy greater intimacy and healthier relationships, create a greater sense of community, and just plain have more fun and greater joy in your life – all through music!"
"Please feel free to bring instruments to play and to share with others. Some will be provided as well. The best instruments are simple and easy to play such as drums, triangles, tambourines, castanets, maracas, egg shakers, etc. You do not need any previous musical experience; just come have fun and learn how music can improve your life!"
Other musical guests include our good friends, The Gypsy Nomads! Don't miss their performance from 1 - 2 pm in the Theatre Room!
The New York Witch Festival is a fun and uplifting event with a full schedule of events for the entire family. Please note it is a non-alcoholic event. For a complete schedule of signings, performances, workshops and more, visit the festival website.
